This week, well, since returning from my time in Peru and Aracaju, I’ve suddenly found more opportunities to do things, and people to do them with.
Played football the other day - that was interesting. But thankfully the other guys are just as bad as me… I’m not sure if it was out of pity or they actually are that bad. Either way, I had a lot of fun getting my top off and running around with a bunch of sweaty guys… cough-i’m not gay-cough.
Straight after this went to a show - my first ‘club’ show in Brazil. It was in a proper old-school type club, complete with band photos and white/black diamond floor, and merch stand in the back. The best bit was it being free - WOO! FREE LIVE MUSIC! Met a friend who I hadn’t seen in over a month, and bought loads of Cd’s. There were two bands, the first being some kinda punk/grunge/70’s pscyhadelica outfit, and had a surprisingly good guitar sound. The second band were a non-vox experimental trio. The guitarist was a little pretentious, but it was cool. They had some ‘I wanna dance!’ moments, but unfortunately my dance teacher wasn’t there to dance with me… maybe next time. But they also missed out on a couple of good tricks - starting with an ace riff, and then dumping it in the next bar for a less solid one. Ah well.
Tonight I’m going to a friend’s house to play Mortal Kombat 3. Yeh, you have no idea how happy I am to reminisce about this. I haven’t played Mortal Kombat since the Sega Mega Drive days, about 15 years ago. The dude’s totally sound. His girlfriend told me the other day that they were suddenly led to pray for me… this was during my first few weeks, and was a total blessing just to hear it - people are praying for me here who barely know me.
There’s another show tomorrow night, got a thing on Friday with someone kinda important, and another show on Saturday night after church. Then Sunday is church day and skype-date day.
I feel like I’m settling in more. Like, in England I had so many close relationships and friendships with people - if you’re reading this and are English, it probably means you. And I’ve really missed having them, but now I think I’m starting to build those relationships with the people around me here - who are taking the time and having the patience to understand my bad Portuguese.
Starting to feel more like, well, normal.
Prayer Points: Language, Understanding, Patience, and Focus.
Only for the King
